My undergraduate degree in Physics is decades out of date and though I have followed, with interest, the evolution of theoretical thought since, through the popularized literature and my acquaintance with several “real” theoretical physicists, I am really no more than a well-informed lay person. Further, I have no first hand knowledge of the UFO or alien abduction phenomenon. I don’t even play either an abductee, or a physicist, on TV.
Finally, for most of my adult life I was a rigid material realist, as are most physicists I know. They (and the I of a decade ago) would look with scorn and pity on my attempts to reconcile a massive body such as the alien abduction phenomena, of what they would consider delusion, with physics theory. Over the last two decades I have “lost my material realist religion” and begun looking for a perspective that could comprehend both worlds. In the future, I may abandon these ideas as new data or more attractive paradigms emerge. But for now Flatland is my theoretical friend.
